The Republican Rewrite:

Ask not what you can do for your country.  Ask what your country can do for you.   Ask how you can milk the public treasury.  Ask how you can manipulate the laws to stay in power.  ---  Ask how you can use your political position to make more money for yourself.    Ask how you can secretly steal from the poor and give to the rich.   Ask how you can peddle favors to the super-wealthy and receive favors in return.   Ask how you can raise sleaze and secret criminal behavior to new heights.

In 1991, with American troops 23 kilometers from Saddam Hussein's palace,  George Bush Sr. ordered the troops to turn around and come home.   When asked why he left Hussein in power, he responded with:

"We left Hussein in power in Iraq because if we replaced him, we could get someone worse."

Hitler and Stalin were already dead.   And nobody had the courage to ask who he was talking about.   The real answer to that question was and still is:   

We need enemies to justify giving billions of tax dollars to those who run the military industrial establishment.    We need war to keep the public living in fear -- to keep them demanding the false sense of security that we what we want to give them.  (The "Patriot Act" is a classic example of this.)

The correct response of Hussein's invasion to Kuwait was to have the American troops create a military line across the country separating Hussein from the troops in the south.   Then say to those troops:  get out of Kuwait,  come north, enter Baghdad, remove Hussein,  cleanse  the Bath Party of the criminals, rename the Bath party, and set up a free country with rights for all citizens.  We (the U.S. government)  will prove any needed support, military and otherwise.   

The entire fiasco could have been resolved in a matter of days, and very likely, without a shot being fired by the American military.
